GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Adult Basic Education Program of Bourgh of Manhattan Community College Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development is seeking an instructor who will be responsible for teaching our Hospitality/ESOL Certification course, under our IELCE program. This training focuses on helping students, with an intermediate-advanced level of the English language, to learn the skills in the hospitality industry, in order to get entry level jobs in establishments such as, restaurants, hotels, etc.
This class will be taught over a period of four (4) days, with 2 days of ESOL instruction and 2 days of Hospitality training. Currently, this is a part time position but has the possibility to become full time.
Candidates are required to submit a cover letter, detailing relate experience, along with the resume.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree, Education or a related field preferred.
- Previous teaching experience, preferably in an ESL or EFL context
- Fluency in English and proficiency in one or more additional languages is an asset.
- TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification.
- Knowledge/Awareness of the culture and customs of the students’ home countries is desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Must be certified in hospitality or willing to take the hospitality training to get certified
- Teach/ Reinforce the English language to intermediate-advanced level ESOL learners
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the hospitality curriculum and meet the needs of the students.
- Adaptability to meet the needs of diverse students and learning styles.
- Use a variety of teaching methods, materials, and technology to engage students and enhance their learning.
- Must attend 14 hours per physical year of professional development workshops to stay up-to-date on the latest teaching methods and technologies.
- Flexibility in participating on registration days, to intake new students into our ESOL Ault Education Program.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with students.
