About this opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Manager, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, the Instrumentation Engineer will provide technical support to capital projects and day-to-day Operations. Operations technical support will include providing assistance to maintenance personnel for telecoms, instrumentation & control troubleshooting and failure analysis, as well as disposition of Management of Change (MOC) requests. The role handles selected small projects, including design and construction management, and will be responsible for overall safe and effective use of the controls and communications systems on the installation. This position will travel offshore periodically.
This position is located at our St. John’s, NL office, and will require travelling offshore periodically.
What you’ll do:
- Providing day-to-day technical assistance to offshore operations/maintenance groups. This includes preventative maintenance procedures, fixing issues, problem analysis and technology evaluations
- Providing mentorship and direction to the EPC contractors
- Performing technical reviews of engineering designs
- Providing detail engineering design for small projects which are primarily I&C or telecoms in scope
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of corporate programs such as technical specifications, cyber security and alarm management
- Training as required by the CAPP Standard Practice for Training & Qualifications of Personnel, Transport Canada, other regulatory requirements, and company required training as per the approved Cenovus Training Matrix
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Degree
- Member in good standing or eligible for Professional Engineer status with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)
- Minimum of four (4) years Instrumentation & Controls related experience within the oil and gas industry
- Knowledge of CNLOPB, DNV and Transport Canada regulations and standards
- Knowledge and experience with various telecommunication’s system

This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to offshore pre-placement Fitness for Work assessments, which includes drug and alcohol screening, a CAPP medical and BST/HUEBA testing.
You must be able to travel via helicopter and boat. This position requires the successful candidate travel offshore, there you will be required to obtain and maintain medical clearance and obtain all required training necessary for offshore travel.
This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to pre-placement Fitness for Work assessments, which includes drug and alcohol screening, a medical and driver’s abstract review.
