Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC) is an international firm of civil engineers and geoscientists providing professional services for the development, management, and protection of water resources. Our operations encompass a variety of workplaces, including conventional offices, physical hydraulics laboratories, and a range of field sites, some of which are in remote settings. REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- At minimum, a Technology Certificate or Diploma from a technical institution (instrumentation, mechatronics, robotics, manufacturing, electrical, mechanical, or similar)
- Professional, academic, or hobbyist experience in building or assembling mechanics or electronics
- Strong mechanical aptitude; enjoys taking things apart and putting them back together
- Ability to read and comprehend mechanical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Ability to build components from spec
- Ability to use and understand electronic testing equipment such as multi-meters
- Experience in QC and equipment inventory management
- Problem solving abilities
- Time management skills
- Experience using Excel and Word
- A meticulous, precise, and detail-orientated approach
Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
You will be expected to learn and carry out a variety of unique, hands-on tasks, and as a result you’ll have the opportunity to learn many new skills. If you like variety and enjoy picking up new skills outside of your comfort zone, this is the perfect role for you. You will be joining a highly specialized team who can help guide and train you as you learn the skills needed to excel in this role!
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Building Small Electronics – Forming and fabricating piezo-electric transducers, micro-soldering, molding, etc.
- Building Larger Systems– Building research devices such as test platforms, test jigs, and our core products
- Breaking Stuff – Carrying out experiments and laboratory tests in our scaled hydraulic models. For example, seeing what pressures you get downstream of a dam or the velocity fluctuations in a pump station and then figure out if the numbers are accurate!
- Sensors and Equipment Maintenance – Replacing and repairing electronic and solid components used in laboratory and field applications
- Developing Accurate and Reliable Monitoring and Laboratory Equipment– Our work is highly technical; you should like to both learn about and develop technologies while ensuring a high standard of quality in your work.
- Quality Control – Validating test equipment in both a laboratory and field environment
- Utilize new and existing python, Crbasic and Labview code to collect and analyze data
