INSURANCE MANAGER

Reporting to the VP of Insurance, the Insurance Manager is a dynamic individual who will have a lasting impact on our clients by providing excellent customer service and actively enhancing insurance knowledge and community resiliency for those living in our managed buildings.
The Insurance Manager will be largely responsible for the oversight and placement of Condo Corporation insurance to ensure the appropriate insurance coverage is in place at all times. The Insurance Manager is passionate about providing education and will be a resource for board members, property managers, and other stakeholders. It is the Insurance Manager’s responsibility to minimize risk for both FirstService Residential (North America’s foremost property management firm) and its managed clients through these job functions.
Overall, the Insurance Manager will provide guidance on the most challenging and complex situations in ways that drive client satisfaction, transform “detractors” into “promoters”, and in turn strengthen the organizational brand. The Insurance Manager will not only be an exemplary brand ambassador, but a trusted advisor.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 3 year’s industry related experience and some experience managing a small team.
- Level 2 General Insurance License or ability to obtain license within 6 months of employment
- Holds a minimum of an associate’s degree or diploma, preferably in a related discipline (e.g., building technology, insurance, or risk management) or equivalent experience.
- Insurance designation a plus
- Prior experience in property management and/or condo corporation insurance preferred
- Proficient in working in an evolving, dynamic, and high-volume/fast paced environment
- Has a track record of successful implementation of operational objectives
- Proficient and comfortable with public speaking
- Established history of building long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with clients, vendors, colleagues, etc.
- Experience with new developments, high rises, high-density and mixed-use strata properties considered a strong asset
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & PROFICIENCIES
A comprehensive understanding of working on property insurance and claims. Other competencies include:
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personalities
- Capable of working extended hours, to include evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.
- Proven ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to all stakeholders
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within specialty areas. Ability to read, analyze insurance policies and wordings, bylaws, statutes, regulations, or documents with a similar degree of complexity
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Position may involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 40 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day.
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications, especially Word, Excel land Outlook
- Proficiency with meeting and leading virtual meetings (e.g., Zoom).

Responsibilities:
- Review proposals and policies to complete coverage & premium comparisons
- Manage the placement of new & renewal business, including buildings transitioning to our management and new buildings off construction
- Ensure insurance placements are compliant with the Ontario Condominium Act and bylaws
- Prompt response to renewal and insurance related queries from Property Managers, Board members and Owners
- Serve as the relationship manager and liaison with insurance brokers and property managers
- Execute on FS Insurance Policy Renewal Standard Operating Procedures, which includes gathering of underwriting information, communication with brokers, property managers, and board members, and working diligently to obtain the best available terms and conditions on behalf of clients.
- Support the renewal process with attendance at Board Meetings and Annual General Meetings as required (often after-hours)
The Insurance Manager will ensure that established service and quality standards are met while striving to continually exceed those standards while complying with all policies, procedures, and regulations.
