QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

A relevant qualification and/or experience in community services, social work, criminology, psychology, victim services and/or family violence is desirable.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the FAS Intake and Triage Supervisor, you will review FAS applications from aboriginal victims of crime to ensure they are ready for the FAS assessment team to action. You will have direct contact with victims and their support people to ensure applications are complete, including providing advice and support. This may include managing inbound and outbound calls and responding to FAS enquiries, developing cultural support plans, and making referrals for victims engaging through a specialist Aboriginal victims of crime team.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Support Aboriginal victims of crime to understand how to make applications for financial assistance.
  • Analyse applications to determine their priority and complexity using an interpretation of established policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Identify and analyse documentary evidence to make interim decisions on applications to respond to the immediate needs of applicants.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed practice, including an understanding of the victim services system and the ability to liaise effectively to improve victim outcomes, applying an intersectional lens in service delivery, engaging in reflective practice, supporting and informing victims of crime, and considering lived experience in improving service delivery.
  • Understanding of the nature and dynamics of family violence and sexual assault
