Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (D.E.P.) In Assistance in health care establishments (P.A.B.) or hold a Secondary V diploma or a diploma or attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority and have one (1) year of pertinent experience in those areas requiring self-discipline, general concepts in psychology and human relation skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must have gone through the screening process and been retained
  • Must be fluent in French and English
  • Experience working with high special needs students, particularly student having developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, severe behavioural challenges and oppositional behaviour disorder is an asset
  • Must be flexible to adapt to needs of students with special needs in different classrooms
  • Facility with the use of technology to support the delivery of modified programs
  • Ability to work as a member of the school team to support the integration of students into regular classes
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers
  • Can support students using Google read and write is an asset
  • Must be comfortable working with oppositional and defiant students
  • Experience in social- emotional learning and trauma informed pedagogy an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Teacher & Team in implementing and maintaining a consistent classroom structure and routine
  • Responding in a predictable way to student requests, actions and needs
  • Utilizing a warm, firm caring approach when setting expectations for students
  • Using non-violent crisis intervention techniques to manage students who have become dysregulated
  • Modeling cooperation and mutual respect/support for students via his/her interactions with the Teacher and Behavior Technician
  • Lift, move, and operate adaptive equipment in a safe manner
  • Assist students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to, lavatory, clothing, hygiene, diapering, toileting, and wash-up routines
  • Participating in team meetings, case conferences, group supervision, and professional development activities, when requested
  • Working collaboratively with the clinical team, the multi-disciplinary resource team and classroom team.
  • Helping students with daily work
  • Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher, professional or therapist
  • Repeating instructions and assisting students in carrying out tasks and activities
  • Helping students practice and rehearse skills;
  • Monitoring their behaviour and learning within the classroom setting;
  • Helping students interact appropriately with others;
  • When requested, supporting student reintegration by accompanying them during their transition back to the regular classroom;
  • Promoting the growth and independence of the students in this classroom
  • Perform related work as required.
