Description:

The Integration Architect plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s digital transformation through the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of robust integration solutions. This position ensures seamless connectivity and data exchange between healthcare systems, applications, and data sources, optimizing workflows and enhancing patient care. The Integration Architect will collaborate across departments to ensure system interoperability and manage integration projects, driving Niagara Health’s strategy forward. This role will be a part of the Enterprise Analytics team, reporting to the Manager, Digital Transformation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
o Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare integration architecture, preferably within a hospital or large healthcare setting.
o Strong familiarity with HIS/EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech) with emphasis on Cerner (Oracle Health).
o Demonstrated expertise in healthcare data exchange standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, DICOM).
o Experience with integration platforms (e.g., Cloverleaf, Mirth Connect, MDLink, Ensemble) considered an asset
o Proven ability to lead large, complex integration projects, delivering results on time and within budget.
o Strong technical skills in Java, SQL, and integration middleware.
o Certification in healthcare IT or integration technologies is preferred
o Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, and Azure, including cloud-based integration engines and solutions is preferred
o Familiarity with agile and DevOps methodologies is preferred.
o Strong strategic critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail
o Ability to work flexible hours including after hours, weekends and holidays to meet tight deadlines.
o Consistent and regular attendance required
o Proficiency in English is required, French is an asset

Responsibilities:

Integration Strategy and Design:
o Design, develop, design and maintain the overall integration architecture while adhering to business, security and clinical requirements for Niagara Health.
o Evaluate and recommend integration platforms, tools, and technologies (e.g., Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, etc.).
o Lead the architecture for interfacing Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, Hospital Information Systems (HIS), and other clinical applications, including with provincial digital health solutions.
o Collaborate with stakeholders, including clinical staff and IT, to gather requirements and provide status updates.
System Interoperability:
o Ensure seamless interoperability between various systems including HIS, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), administrative (i.e., back office) applications, and provincial digital health solutions (e.g., OLIS, DHDR, ClinicalConnect, HRM).
o Apply and manage data exchange standards like HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and CDA, ensuring reliable and secure patient data flow across platforms.
o Provide leadership, optimize and troubleshoot integration solutions, focusing on reducing downtime and maintaining high-performance levels.
o Stay informed on emerging healthcare technology trends and regulations to ensure future-proof solutions.
Compliance, Security & Documentation
o Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations such as PHIPA, HIPAA, and other standards governing healthcare information security and data exchange
o Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of integration processes, data flow diagrams, and system architecture for troubleshooting and stakeholder communication.
o Ensure that documentation is aligned with organizational policies and industry standards, accessible to relevant parties.
Mentorship, Collaboration and Support:
o Mentor junior technical staff, support continuous learning and provide career development assistance to team members.
o Offer guidance in designing innovative solutions to complex interface challenges, resolving potential integration issues,.
o Act as a bridge between clinical, technical, and administrative teams to ensure integration strategies align with organizational and/or departmental goals.
o Communicate integration designs, risks, and project milestones to Niagara Health management, external vendors and other key stakeholders.
