OUR OPPORTUNITY
Work Location: 256 St Georges Terrace Perth or working remotely in a time zone that aligns with AWST.
Reporting to: Chief General Counsel
Are you passionate about innovation and intellectual property? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a talent for uncovering critical insights in patents and technical literature? We are looking for an IP Researcher to play a key role in supporting our Research & Development teams by conducting high-quality patent and technical research to drive our innovation strategy forward.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in electrochemistry, material science, process engineering, or chemical engineering – or at least five years of full-time experience in a relevant scientific or engineering field.
- Sound understanding of the patent system in Australia and overseas as well as the Patent Cooperation Treaty System.
- Expertise in conducting freedom to operate (FTO) and patentability searches with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in technical databases and advanced patent searching techniques, including the ability to assess, select, and use the right tools for each research task.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present findings and prepare concise search summaries.
- Demonstrable experience as a patent examiner, patent analyst, patent searcher, or patent engineer.
- Fluency in one or more foreign languages is desirable.

Responsibilities:
- Work closely with R&D teams to provide strategic research and analysis of patents and published scientific & engineering literature.
- Conduct freedom to operate (FTO) and patentability searches to assess risks and opportunities.
- Review search briefs and perform targeted technical and patent information searches, delivering clear, concise, and actionable reports.
- Support IP Attorneys in evaluating intellectual property risks and protection strategies.
- Stay ahead of the curve by monitoring industry trends and emerging technologies in relevant fields.
