Description:
One of RHL’s best clients - an AmLaw firm in Orange County - is seeking an Intellectual Property Legal Administrative Assistant. This role could be one or two, depending on if the LAA is well-versed in IP prosecution or IP litigation.
Responsibilities:
Litigation Role: 3+ years of complex civil litigation experience, some of which should be in IP litigation
Electronically file documents in federal court / with the USPTO, including inventor documents
Assist with trial preparation (assembling exhibits, binders, etc.)
Communicate with opposing counsel and the courts
Prosecution Role: 3+ years of IP prosecution experience
File new patent and trademark applications and associated documents (application data sheets, inventor declarations, powers of attorney, information disclosure statements, preliminary amendments, and office action responses, with the USPTO
US filing experience is a must; foreign filing experience is nice-to-have
Current volume of filings is anywhere from 2 per day to less than 1
Draft correspondence with foreign IP counsel
Track the IP docket, including office actions and foreign correspondence – however, most docketing is done out the Phoenix office (headquarters)
Search IP databases (such as the USPTO, TEAS, TARR, WIPO, and foreign patent offices – like Japan, Australia, Canada, and the EU)
Ensure all three elements of the patent application is correct (such as claims set)
- Software: Anaqua, NetDocs, iTimekeeper, CPi, AMS, Adobe (bate stamping/labeling, signatures, page numbers). This firm is paperless.
