Description:
ABOUT THE JOB
MR MARVIS is seeking an Interim HR Manager or HR Business Partner (32-40 hours per week, depending on availability) to lead retail-focused strategic projects and support HR operations. This role will cover our HRBP Retail during her six-month maternity leave, starting ideally on 1 December 2024, with a 3-4 week onboarding period/overlap.
MR MARVIS began as an e-commerce business, opening our first flagship store in Amsterdam at the end of 2020. By early 2021, we expanded internationally with a store in Antwerp. Today, we operate 13 stores within 3 countries (NL, DE, BE) and aim to reach 25 stores by the end of 2025. With over 200 employees and rapid monthly growth, our retail operations have become a key driver of MR MARVIS’ success.
As we expand our retail operations (internationally), one of our challenges is managing a high volume of inquiries effectively, ensuring compliance with labour laws across different countries, and keeping our non-desk workforce efficient and engaged. This role requires close collaboration with the retail team, the Head of People, the Talent Acquisition Manager, and the People Operations Assistant to enhance employee engagement, align business goals, and ensure smooth operations. The HRBP Retail will also provide guidance and support for daily HR operations and employee inquiries/ relations.
While we strive to streamline guidelines, initiatives, benefits, and compensation between HQ and Retail, we recognize that the retail sector has unique needs. The HRBP Retail will be crucial in anticipating these challenges while maintaining a cohesive strategy. As we grow internationally, understanding labour legislation in countries like France and the UK as well as optimising our payroll operations will be essential. Currently, we use NMBRS in collaboration with an external payroll provider for the Netherlands and SDWorx for Belgium and Germany.
This position is based at our headquarters in Amsterdam, near the Amstel Hotel.
Responsibilities:
This role requires a high degree of autonomy. You will handle HR inquiries on both strategic and operational levels. You’ll lead various high-level projects aimed at making the business more efficient and scalable, particularly in the People/Retail areas. Depending on your expertise and availability, your responsibility may include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring Consistent HR Policy Application: Ensure HR policies and legislation are applied consistently across all retail locations. Identify areas for improvement and work with the retail team to implement necessary changes.
- Supporting Retail Managers: Assist retail managers in implementing company policies and provide advice on HR matters, such as absenteeism and working conditions. Ensure managers have the support they need to handle HR issues effectively.
- Developing and Executing HR Strategies: Partner with the retail team to develop and execute HR strategies that align with business goals, creating a cohesive HR approach that supports overall objectives.
- Overseeing Employee Relations: Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution, to promote a positive work environment, boost morale, and reduce turnover. Address issues proactively before they escalate.
- Managing Compensation and Benefits Programs: Oversee employee compensation and benefits, including salary benchmarking and administering health and wellness benefits. Ensure compensation packages are competitive, fair and in line with the law/ Collective Labour Agreements (if applicable).
- Designing HR Training Programs: Collaborate with the retail team to design HR training programs for managers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to manage HR responsibilities effectively.
- Overseeing Payroll Processes: Ensure payroll processes are accurate and compliant with regulations. Our People Operations Assistant is responsible for delivering the mutations.
- Conducting Store Visits: Visit stores with the Area Manager to ensure HR compliance and understand the unique challenges at each location, providing tailored support where needed.
