SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

  • Three or more years of public accounting experience with demonstrated experience in accounting and tax

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong interest in tax work, and desire for a career in tax
  • Teamwork and the ability to support team goals
  • Strong commitment to quality and accuracy
  • Completion of a University Accounting Degree and completion of CPA designation or at lease substantial progress thereto
  • Knowledge of ASPE, IFRS and CAS to be able to complete complex areas of an engagement
  • Experience with ASPE required, IFRS an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with external clients
  • Possess strong project management skills and organization, with the ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Caseware, Jazz-it, Tax Prep, QuickBooks and Simply Accounting

Responsibilities:

  • Independent completion of small audit, review and compilation files and related tax preparation;
  • Prepare and review personal, corporate tax returns along with other tax information forms;
  • Correspond with tax authorities on tax audits and appeals;
  • Prepare various election forms, with guidance;
  • Develop and implement strategies for clients to capitalize on business opportunities, with guidance;
  • Identify and document tax filing positions including risk analysis, with guidance;
  • Research tax issues and document this research, with guidance;
  • Contribute to client satisfaction by providing clients with quality, timely and responsive services and work products;
  • Discuss simple to moderately complex tax issues with the engagement team and client management;
  • Keep informed of current tax developments and effectively apply tax knowledge to client situations;
  • Prepare practical and effective approaches to the client’s tax situation and arrive at appropriate conclusions, with guidance ;
  • Review tax provisions, corporate tax filings, and information returns;
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic tax planning; actively identifying, evaluating and resolving tax risks and exposures;
  • Build on technical competence by keeping up to date on tax developments and applying them in practical situations;
  • May support and coach junior staff members or staff accountants on the team.
