Industry Electromechanical Construction Equipment manufacturer
Location: Scarborough
Description:
Our client is a private multi-national corporation, operating worldwide. It is the world leader in the design, manufacturing and distribution of specific equipment used in the construction industry. These large electromechanical machines are custom engineered for each order, in North America by an Engineering team of around 30 people working at their Toronto/Scarborough Office. They are seeking to add an additional member to this team, an Electrical Engineer of intermediate experience.

Job Description:

  • They are looking for someone who is a strong communicator, is willing to travel, work in an office environment but also at customer and subcontractor sites. The individual must be well-rounded in engineering fundamentals and can come up with a concept design following customer/company specifications and execute the engineering process through to production level documentation and beyond. That includes designing all electrical designs, including creating the electrical schematics, component selections, sizing panels, troubleshooting, programming PLCs, etc to ensure the mechanical/structural equipment can be properly controlled.
  • The candidate must also possess aptitude and willingness to work with their hands. This position calls for a healthy mix of hands on and design requirement. The company’s equipment includes a broad array of mechanical/structural and electromechanical components including gear motors, linear actuators, hydraulic systems and power packs, battery systems, brake, redundancy, wireless controls, PLC controls, and many more.
  • Processes are fairly typical of construction/manufacturing type industries wherein you will be analyzing customer specifications and creating drawings for review and production. This may include authoring electrical specifications and job transfer sheets to be used by electrical automation/panel builder subcontractors. As an intermediate-senior electrical technologist, you will be not only drafting these design drawings, but also reviewing. With your strong experience in custom engineered control solutions, you’ll be working closely with Project Managers and the engineering team to ensure the equipment operates in a safe manner, the project design is consistent with what was sold and the project stays on budget.
  • Periodically, you’ll be providing technical assistance to the sales and business development teams during the proposal and estimation phases.
  • As an intermediate-senior engineer, you’ll also be tasked with directing and mentoring junior engineers, technologists as well as student interns, providing technical support for our field installations and supporting the ethical, technical and operational integrity of the group.
  • You will be working on R&D projects which explore new revenue streams from industries and new technologies which to date have not been part of our traditional offering. Our engineering and projects teams are highly collaborative and move fast on executing new projects and ideas. We try out new ideas constantly, learn from them and execute again… You will be in the front lines in this engineering process and will take on a critical part in taking the company and the team to the next level.
