ABOUT US:

Since 2009, Gowest has expanded its land holdings in the North Timmins Gold Project (“NTGP”) area to cover a total of 109 square km in the Timmins gold camp, with much of the additional lands being located along the same geological structures – along the largely undeveloped Pipestone Fault, believed to be a splay off the prolific Porcupine-Destor Fault, which has produced the majority of the 145 million ounces of gold produced historically along the Abitibi-Greenstone belt – that host Gowest’s Bradshaw Gold Deposit (formerly Frankfield East) as well as a number of other gold showings.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Geologist (or their delegate), the Intermediate Geological Technician will be responsible for various geological duties, working alongside Geologists dedicated to working on gold exploration projects at Gowest Gold. The position requires direct involvement with exciting existing project in Timmins.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Geology, Civil Engineering or Construction Services Diploma from a recognized Technical School. Alternatively proven project experience in a similar role may be considered.
  • Demonstrated practical hands-on expertise (i.e. previous core facility and field experience) is an asset.
  • Prior Borehole logging experience would be considered an asset but is not required.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess a valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Timmins.
  • CSA approved Steel Toed Safety Boots are required.
  • Chainsaw skills and hands-on experience working outdoors is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Drill core management including checking run markers, labelling, handling and racking core boxes.
  • Core orientation including docking oriented core, marking orientation and cut lines, recording QA/QC information on a strip log.
  • Completing meter marks, RQD, magnetic susceptibility, box ends, specific gravity, box tags, photographs, and data entry.
  • Informing the geology and drilling teams of any problems with the drill core or with the core processing procedures.
  • Preparing or supervising the preparation of rock samples and performing shipping procedures.
  • Using and reporting on handheld GPS measurements.
  • Performing drill hole collar spotting in the field.
  • Management of small to medium quality control and quality assurance projects.
  • Preparing of sample shipment paperwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
