We are looking for a bright, positive Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join a world-class team of permafrost engineers working on large-scale, Arctic-region projects. Tetra Tech is an industry leader in areas such as frozen core dam construction, permafrost site investigations, ice engineering for roads and pads, thermal modelling, and permafrost geology. This position will provide the opportunity to work on projects related to diamond mines, metal mines, oil and gas fields, and government infrastructure sites.
We aim to develop our employees for the long term. Think about it from our perspective: as a consulting firm, our employees are the value we provide to our clients! We believe in developing strong, dynamic people. That means providing training, diverse work opportunities, responsibility, and strong mentorship.
Arctic engineering still has plenty of room for innovation, which is an exciting opportunity for a project engineer looking to get more experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience, and experience in consulting engineering would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD, slope stability and Seepage analyses software.
  • Excellent numerical modeling skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Travel will be required in this position. Candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments in Northern Canada, including Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required field duties.
  • Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent).
  • Eligible for registration as an APEGA Engineer-In-Training.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Broad-based geotechnical skill development to address the life-cycle needs of a major Northern project: design, construction, and closure.
  • Working not just in the permafrost geotechnical realm, but gaining a working understanding of other areas to function effectively with our departments in transportation, mining, and environmental.
  • Conducting construction monitoring with northern construction partners to ensure the job meets the client’s needs.
  • Planning, conducting, and supervising permafrost-region geotechnical investigations with the goal of implementing new designs or preserving existing structures that are threatened by permafrost degradation.
  • Evaluating conditions for the design of foundations, retaining structures, and earth structures, usually with a special focus on thermal characteristics.
  • Conducting geotechnical analyses (stability, seepage, and thermal) using various software (e.g., SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, TEMP/W).
  • Using CAD software (e.g. Civil 3D) to develop models for water management infrastructure (dams, dikes, containment ponds, Berms, Culverts, channels).
  • Analyzing field data and preparing detailed engineering reports and recommendations.
  • Communicating with clients, sub-consultants, and internal stakeholders.
