Description:

ABOUT US

Fathom Studio is a multidisciplinary firm deeply rooted in Atlantic Canada for the last 25 years. Our office is in the growing Halifax Regional Municipality, where we are privileged to work in a dynamic urban setting and where nature is also right at our doorstep.
We are a team of landscape architects, planners, urban designers, architects, graphic designers, interpretive planners, and engineers. We take pride in our collaborative work environment and our integrated design process. We are inspired by the rugged landscapes of our home and the cultural diversity of the people that live here. We aspire to create meaningful connections to place. We are looking for equally inspired designers to join our growing design family here on the east coast.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a candidate with a professional degree (BLA or MLA) and 3-5 years of experience in Landscape Architecture working in a consulting setting. A full member of a CSLA or ASLA component association is preferred. Candidates must be currently eligible to work in Canada and hold a valid driver’s license.
Our ideal candidates will have some connection to Atlantic Canada and/or are strongly interested in building a life and professional capacity here in Halifax, one of the most inspiring landscapes in Canada.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Proficiency in site grading, planting design, specification writing, construction detailing, cost estimating, and community consultation is considered essential. We are looking for someone with extraordinary design, spoken, and written communication skills and the ability to fully implement a creative vision. Candidates should be proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat), and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint). Advanced experience with Autodesk Civil 3D, Rhino, Sketchup, Lumion, and ArcGIS is an asset.

Responsibilities:

The Intermediate Landscape Architect is responsible for all aspects of landscape architectural project delivery, including developing design concepts, conducting research and analysis, inventory and mapping, producing design reports, facilitating community engagement, delivering presentations to clients and stakeholders, producing working drawing packages, coordinating with other professional consultants, and performing contract administration tasks.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to be proactive and self-motivated as part of multidisciplinary creative teams. Ultimately, the candidates will work with a team of designers from different professions to create the overall look and feel of a wide range of spaces. As an interdisciplinary firm, some projects will support the work of other teams in the office, including planning and architecture.
The Intermediate Landscape Architect reports directly to the Director of Landscape Architecture and works on projects under the leadership of the Landscape Architecture team’s Senior Associates and Project Managers.
If you have some connection to Atlantic Canada and you’re looking for an opportunity to return home and work on extraordinary projects, this is a great opportunity to make a difference. If you want to work in one of the most beautiful settings in Canada, and if you enjoy the kinship of other exceptional and motivated designers, then drop us a line; we would love to hear all about you.
Please submit a pdf that includes a cover letter, resume and portfolio to careers@fathomstudio.ca. In the email’s subject line, please write your Name and LA Position you are seeking to fill
