Tetra Tech’s Mechanical & Electrical group is currently seeking an intermediate mechanical engineer with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited Canadian University. The applicant must be registered as a P.Eng. with a Canadian professional association. The successful candidate will work as part of an engineering consulting team for the design, development and implementation of mechanical systems required for municipal and industrial facilities such as water treatment plants, pump stations, composting facilities, transfer stations, bulk fuel systems, and power generation facilities. This position is a permanent full-time role and will include work with clients throughout Canada. The successful candidate will report to the M&E manager in Winnipeg.

Your Role:

  • Designs mechanical HVAC, Plumbing, for commercial, industrial, public, and private facilities
  • Completes various engineering assignments, including investigations, studies, design and specifications for permit and construction, cost estimation, and supervision of construction and commissioning
  • Reads and understands pertinent codes and standards
  • Prepares drawings, schematics, specifications, reports, proposals, and technical bid packages for both tendering and construction phase as required
  • Assists with the preparation of proposals
  • Advises on technical problems and review work for technical accuracy and adequacy.
  • Perform field inspections, condition assessment, and monitoring of construction. May require travel on a limited basis
  • Uses initiative and judgement to resolve problems, interprets engineering specifications, investigates design and field engineering difficulties and co-ordinates work schedules.
  • Contacts associates in other departments to discuss and advise on requirements.
  • Consults with suppliers or contractors to interpret specifications or other contract criteria.
  • Exercises independent judgement in selecting and interpreting information, handling deviations from standard methods and resolving difficulties.
  • Difficult, complex, or unusual problems or decisions are usually referred to more senior engineers.
  • Checks work of assigned staff, suppliers, and contractors for accuracy and conformance with quality and quantity standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited Canadian University.
  • Must be registered as a P.Eng. with a Canadian professional association.
  • Min 2 years as a P.Eng. with design experience working for a Consulting firm in Canada is mandatory.
  • Demonstrable experience designing HVAC systems is mandatory.
  • Demonstrable experience sealing designs would be an asset.
  • Experience using ACAD would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Fire Protection systems would be an asset but not mandatory.
  • Experience designing HVAC systems for Water Treatment Plants would be an asset
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the study and design of mechanical HVAC and plumbing systems for the municipal, commercial, and industrial sectors.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Effective communication, organization, and presentation skills
  • Experience providing services to Manitoba Hydro or similar Power Provider would be an asset
  • Experience providing services to the City of Winnipeg, the City of Toronto and/or other municipalities would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license
