KGS Group is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Transportation Construction Inspector to join our growing Transportation Department in Winnipeg.
ABOUT YOU
We’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some ideal qualifications could include:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer/ Engineer-in-Training with EGM or as a technician or Technologist with CTTAM.
- Eight (8) or more years of related work experience in the heavy civil construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of local roadway construction principles and practices, including City of Winnipeg (COW) and Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure (MTI) contract specifications.
- A background in surveying. Familiarity with TopCon equipment is considered an asset.
- A background in material testing on roadway projects is considered an asset.
- A familiarity with civil engineering software (i.e., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to delegate tasks within a small team.
- An above-average technical aptitude and a desire to further develop technical knowledge.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work for multiple days on various job sites throughout Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.
- The ability to operate off-road vehicles is an asset (i.e., ATV, Snowmobile, Argo and boats). Candidate must hold a valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Preference is given to candidates with existing relationships and/or previous experience with City of Winnipeg and Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure.

KGS Group seeks an Intermediate to Senior Transportation Construction Inspector for our Winnipeg office. Reporting to the Head of Transportation, this position will be responsible for inspecting projects for clients that include Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure, the City of Winnipeg, a broad range of urban & rural municipalities and the private sector.
The successful candidate will be skilled in the construction and maintenance of highway and urban transportation infrastructure. The role will support and ultimately manage a range of transportation-based engineering projects, primarily focusing on on-site construction administration.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Your primary role will be to administer the construction of transportation-based projects helping ensure objectives, schedules and budgets are met. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and monitor field activities involving surveyors, contractors and testing firms.
- Monitor and record the work of contractors, while tracking progress, materials and quantities.
- Prepare contract specifications, construction staging and traffic arrangement schemes.
- Review contract documents for comprehensiveness, errors and constructability.
- Manage contract RFIs, Site Instructions, Proposed Change Notices and Change Orders.
- Manage construction budget, work approvals and progress payments.
- Conduct site surveys for construction layout and quantity tallies.
- Manage the construction budget, approve work and progress payments.
- Act as liaison with clients, contractors, utilities, agencies and stakeholders.
- Train, Coach, supervise, and mentor junior staff with their career growth and professional development.
- Participate in and promote KGS Group’s safety-first culture.
