Description:
Located on the north shore of Canada’s largest port, Vancouver Drydock plays an integral role in supporting the vessels that serve Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest. Whether performing scheduled hull maintenance, replacing worn equipment, or fabricating and installing specialized machinery to enable a vessel’s mission, the skilled team of over 200 complete maintenance, repair and refit on over 50 projects per year on vessels ranging from small tugs, ferries, large freighters, Coast Guard vessels and cruise ships.
Reporting to the Manager, Shipyard Accounting, the Intern, Accounting VDC supports the accounting and reporting responsibilities at Vancouver Drydocks. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance/Accounting Intern to join our team. The role will include month-end entries, account reconciliations, supervising of accounts, preparing accruals, analysis of results, financial reporting, documentation of procedures and project support. This position supports all aspects of operational finance & accounting within the division and will also be involved in process improvement projects. This role is ideal for students looking to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in gathering information, analyze data to support development in special projects.
- Work on budget and forecast templates updates in support of team.
- Creating documentation and providing project support for a new drydock.
- Prepare and record month-end accounting journal entries.
- Assist with the preparation of month-end reports.
- Analyze account balances at month-end as needed.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making.
- Reconcile various GL accounts and accounts to sub-ledgers.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
- Support the implementation of accounting software tools and processes.
- Perform general administrative and other accounting and financial duties as required.
