Description:
Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
Seaspan’s Innovation team is actively developing in several technology areas including digital twins, green technologies, and autonomy in support of use cases for future vessels, engineering services, and in-service support. Our innovation program includes current and planned projects seeking scalable solutions that integrate emerging technologies using real-time sensors, 3D spatial information, and visualization technologies to improve Seaspan’s shipbuilding and refit business.
The Intern, Innovation will work with experts and leaders across the organization, the Innovation intern undertakes unique assignments that supports investigation outcomes and enhances the visibility of developments in the technology areas of Green Technology and Autonomous Manufacturing.
Green Technology : Investigation into marine decarbonization applications and ongoing development of physics-based models that contribute towards vessel energy transition and Canada’s maritime decarbonization efforts.
Autonomous Manufacturing : Adoption, testing and evaluation of the applications and uses of autonomous robotic systems for welding, painting and inspection in heavy-industrial environments.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant for this position will support communication and business strategies with internal stakeholders and provide day-to-day support to managers and engineers while performing specific activities, including:
- Enhance Innovation’s visibility among the wider Seaspan audiences by initiating and executing comprehensive communication plans and strategies.
- Collaborate with the technical team to transform technical investigations and development outcomes into engaging materials, infographics, articles, or presentations tailored for internal and external Seaspan audiences.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify opportunities and gaps in technology areas, including participate in engagements with business partners, compiling reports, gathering and consolidating feedback from subject matter experts.
- Support Innovation project leaders with coordination of team and project activities, such as roadmaps, technology strategies, client/vendor meetings, presentations, and event management for workshops and showcases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and departments to drive progress across multiple project activities.
