Job Description:
Tekron, a Microchip Technology Incorporated owned company, is a leading developer of accurate GPS/GLONASS clocks and time synchronization solutions that enable synchronization of advanced networks and services. Installed in over 80 countries, these solutions are used to provide critical timekeeping in national power grids, as well as civilian and military networks. Our customers are predominantly power utility network operators, telecom networks and enterprise industries.
Microchip Technology Inc. is a leading semiconductor supplier of smart, connected, and secure embedded control solutions, and is headquartered in Chandler, Arizona.
The Tekron team forms part of the Frequency and Timing Division and are part of a global team working on developing the next generation of precision timing solutions.
The internship is 12 weeks long starting in November ending in February. You will be provided with a personal mentor and all the necessary tools. We are looking for three hardworking and motivated summer interns to join our team in Wellington.
What we are looking for a summer intern to work on the following project.
GNSS Resiliency
Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) face increasing threats from spoofing and jamming, compromising accuracy and reliability. Awareness and proactive measures are crucial to safeguard this critical infrastructure from malicious disruptions that can affect navigation, timing, and security across various sectors
The aim of this GNSS resiliency project is to develop improvements to help detect and mitigate GNSS vulnerabilities.
You will be a creative thinker who likes to see how far you can push a product. You will be tasked with validating the clocks Network Time Protocol (NTP), Precision Time Protocol (PTP), and other timing ports against a reference, and to logically try to break the device, to establish areas to improve resilience.

  • Experience in Python, C# and/or embedded C
  • Experience with electronic circuit design
  • An interest in RF environments
  • Inquisitive and wants to dig into problems
  • Creative thinker who can ‘think outside the box’

Requirements/Qualifications:

To be eligible for an internship position, you must:

  • be studying, or have recently completed, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
  • be studying science, technology, engineering, design or business at a New Zealand tertiary education institute
  • be legally permitted to work in New Zealand.
