INTERN (THROUGHPUT BUSINESS)

Today, 95% of Singapore’s electricity is generated from imported natural gas. Natural gas is imported into Singapore via pipelines i.e. Piped Natural Gas (PNG) or via ships i.e. Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).
Energy Market Authority (EMA) is a regulatory authority that oversees Gas and Electricity Markets in Singapore. Only license holders of PNG or LNG can import natural gas into Singapore. Likewise, only license holders can operate LNG terminal or Onshore Receiving Facilities (ORF) of piped gas. EMA issued various licenses to the qualified companies to allow import of PNG/LNG, to operate LNG terminal or ORF.
Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) is the sole LNG Terminal Operator in Singapore. SLNG owns and operates LNG terminal in Jurong Island. Currently, there are 4 tanks with combined capacity of 800,000 m3 to store imported LNG into Singapore.
SLNG provides LNG terminal services to the customers depending on their various needs. To utilise LNG terminal services provided by SLNG, the customers are required to sign the relevant agreement(s) with SLNG. Throughput Business group is the custodian of the Terminal Use Agreement (the TUA) and provides commercial operations aspect of the TUA.

LNG Terminal customers can utilised the imported LNG in the forms of

• regasified-LNG;
• liquified natural gas;
• export of LNG to other countries and / or bunkering purposes.

Key functions of Throughput Business group in SLNG are:

• Annual Delivery Program formation;
• Hydrocarbon Accounting;
• Supply & Demand Analytics;
• Nomination and Scheduling of regasified-LNG and ISO container trucks; and
• Billing.

The intern student attached to Throughput Business group will need to learn the various key functions stated above and how SLNG as a company plays a critical role in LNG value chain and energy industry. In addition, the intern student will also learn about the closed coordination between various functional groups within SLNG to provide the LNG terminal services to the respective customer.
At the end of the internship program, the student is expected to learn both commercial and physical operations of the LNG Terminal, contract management as well as intricate and essential relationship between various stakeholders of Singapore’s Gas and Electricity Markets.
