Description:

Key Duties

  • Provide professional advice and guidance on operation, maintenance and repair of technical and specialist cleanroom equipment including vacuum systems, pumps, chillers and other ancillary equipment to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood.
  • Investigate and analyse specific issues within semiconductor device fabrication processes, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances within semiconductor device fabrication process technologies.
  • To carry out equipment maintenance and equipment calibration procedures to ensure process equipment and auxiliary equipment operate optimally and with minimum downtime. Responsible for maintenance, service, and repair of ancillary and support equipment within the cleanroom, in particular oil and dry vacuum pumps, process cooling water chillers, de-ionised water systems and spin-coaters.
  • Assist ICS process engineering staff in coordinating external equipment manufacturers and maintainers where appropriate, supervising any field service engineer activity in the ICS cleanroom.
  • Ensure that the provision of the running of standard device fabrication processes are delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with ICS Process Engineers and researchers to make recommendations for development of established processes and procedures.
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools and external bodies (equipment manufacturers/suppliers) as required.
  • To assist the Cleanroom Manager and Process Engineers with any equipment / cleanroom shut downs or restarts.
  • Supervise specific project teams on an occasional basis to accomplish key objectives.
  • Develop and deliver training within the ICS cleanroom
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the ICS cleanroom.

  • Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  1. Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Substantial experience of working in a technical support role with the ability to demonstrate professional knowledge within specialist discipline to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers
  2. Hands-on experience of mechanical and electrical maintenance of laboratory scale equipment.
  3. A basic knowledge of processes involving gas handling or vacuum processes
  4. Proficient in the use of appropriate IT packages (MS Office) with the ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate.
