Description:
MAIN FUNCTION
To contribute predominantly to teaching and other student-facing activities. To contribute to taught courses, supervision, administration and leadership, and to advance and disseminate knowledge about pedagogy and new approaches. The roles will entail a balance between teaching and other duties that support the life of our School community of students and staff, as well as the wider University. Note that we can support time for research interests within the T&S pathway, especially where these align with student project supervision or placement supervision.
Teaching
- Design and deliver teaching programmes for courses and contribute to module development as part of a module team
- Where appropriate, to translate external examples of good pedagogy and modern teaching practice into improved student experience in Cardiff and maintain links with external networks
- Inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of a mentor / module leader and develop skills in assessment methods and in providing constructive feedback to students
- Supervise the work of students including the supervision of Undergraduate and Master’s students and the co-supervision of PGR’s
- To advise and support colleagues and students in our community, informally or formally as personal tutor, mentor, internal reviewer or collaborator as appropriate
Scholarship
- Contribute to scholarship through participation in conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of individual scholarship
- Engage in scholarly activity through journal articles and/or outputs which advance knowledge within the area of work
- To contribute to the smooth running of the School, both through defined duties and through maintaining positive working relationships with all staff and students
- Carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking paper and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in committee work.
Other
- To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional and national profile
- To undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance in the role of Lecturer
- To mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development
- To participate in School administration and activities to promote the School and its work to the wider University and the outside world
- Any other duties not included above, but consistent with the role.
