Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Internal Audit department provides independent reviews of the effectiveness of the processes, procedures, and controls in place to manage a wide variety of business risks. As an Internal Audit Analyst, you can help make a real difference by contributing to the Company’s ongoing efforts to improve those processes and procedures by utilizing your strong diagnostic, analytical, relationship-management, and communications skills. You will gain exposure to and be involved in performing risk-based reviews of various functions across Canadian Natural’s business units, including Corporate, Oil Sands Mining, Conventional, Thermal, and Offshore North Sea and West Africa. You will be part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team who work together with management and senior leadership to provide independent assurance that business risks are appropriately managed and mitigated.
The knowledge and experience you acquire during your time on the Internal Audit and Controls team will help you develop your business acumen and understanding of the Oil & Gas industry, and better position you to be capable of contributing in more senior roles as your career at Canadian Natural progresses.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop your understanding of enterprise risk and various Canadian Natural business functions, including how they are affected by statutory and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to the annual audit risk assessment and planning process, along with helping to develop the audit strategy and approach for various audits assigned to you
- Perform detailed analyses of the processes assigned to you, and identify and understand the business objectives and related risks
- Work with senior personnel across different business units to plan and coordinate work efforts
- Plan and perform business process walk-throughs, and develop testing procedures and document your work
- Provide risk and control advisory services to the business, focusing on enhancing internal controls and improving process efficiency and effectiveness through value-added recommendations
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a business related discipline, coupled with a Professional Auditing (e.g., CIA), Accounting (e.g., CPA), or a Professional Engineering designation (PEng)
- Willingness to pursue Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) / Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP) designation
- Preference will be given to individuals with 5 - 10 years of internal audit experience in a multi-disciplinary oil & gas company environment, including knowledge and experience of corporate operations, IT operations, oil & gas field operations, mining operations, and related statutory and regulatory requirements
- Proven track record of:
- Strong business acumen and professional judgment, with a knowledge of the Canadian Oil & Gas industry and auditing practices
- Being a self-starter and a team player who takes initiative and embraces continuous learning opportunities
- Building proactive and trusted relationships with colleagues and customers through your strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Solving problems and successfully developing, proposing and implementing solutions
- Time management and meeting deadlines while adapting to changes and integrating new information
