POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Manager, Strategy and Innovation, this position is responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of internal communication programs, processes and methodologies towards the achievement of effective distribution of corporate information and corporate-wide access to necessary business processes and information as needed to achieve service objectives. The Internal Communication Specialist translates business strategies into key messages, develops appropriate internal communication initiatives in support of those strategies and business processes, and executes and drives communications-related programs. This role partners with all internal teams including, but not limited to, People Services, Finance, and Communications Advertising and Marketing (CAM) in its service delivery.
Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS
- Honours Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing or related field with specialized courses in Internal Communications
- Five (5) years of relevant communications experience; work experience in a multi-department organization strongly preferred
- Demonstrated previous experience in writing and editing marketing content; experience with web and digital content preferred
- Experience managing branded social media accounts and proficiency with Google Analytics and HTML-based content management systems
- Possesses outstanding oral and written communications skills including superior writing, grammar, editing and proofreading skills; attention to detail and accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to think analytically and develop solutions that meet the business needs of the organization
- Demonstrated customer service skills at a level to develop and maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization
- Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and tact and maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times, complying with all applicable privacy legislation and local policies and procedures
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet and any other related software
- Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence or the ability to attend work related activities at various sites within the municipality or at other sites within Ontario
- Possess and maintain the absence of a Criminal Record. Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check will be required
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development of high quality internal communication plans and resources that support the successful flow of information in a multi-department service oriented organization
- Develop communication materials using a variety of methods (written communications, presentation materials, Zoom and other platforms, town halls, small group meetings, etc.) to articulate key messages
- Ensure messaging and materials are high quality, accurate, appropriate and integrated with existing objectives
- Use internal tools, as appropriate, to maximize the effectiveness of internal communications and ensure consistent messaging, branding, imagery and identity
- Assist in writing and editing impactful and engaging content in support of corporate and departmental initiatives, generally with an internal focus
- Work with appropriate team members to create and maintain content for employee communication channels, and partners with the broader CAM and IT teams to explore/recommend new channels or technologies where possible
- Manage content for the employee intranet/website, recommending layout, content and methods
- Identify corporate learning needs associated with inter-departmental communication; prepare methodologies and training materials to assist others with the creation of content or management of information
- Implement and maintain metrics to measure effectiveness of internal communication channels with the goal of continuously improving outcomes
- Coordinate with CAM’s program to communicate corporate strategies and priorities
- Administer and monitor the applicable budget for internal communications
