Description:
Reporting directly to the Director, Emergency Services, the Nurse Practitioner (RN EC) provides comprehensive patient care using advanced clinical assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics. To provide direct and indirect comprehensive patient care services to support patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
The NP (RN EC) scope of practice incorporates both the caring paradigm of nursing and parts of the therapeutic paradigm of medicine.
The NP (RN EC) is responsible to support, promote, and lead through example, the adoption of the organization’s mission, vision and values.
The NP (RN EC) complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Evidence of being a self directed advance practice nurse.
- Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in emergency health care.
- Promotes professional education and advances knowledge through research and scholarly activities.
- Highly developed critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze problems.
- Effective communication with others.
- Demonstrated ability to make quality and innovative decisions.
- Self directed practitioner who directs, provides and evaluates holistic patient care based on advanced nursing and medical management knowledge and skills for the Non-Urgent Emergency patient.
- Analyzes and interprets current research / literature / knowledge applicable to the scope of practice of the NP (RN-EC) with the Non-Urgent Emergency Department patient.
- Facilitates own professional development and maintains clinical competency through formal educational programs and opportunities with physicians and peers.
- Develops annual personal goals and objectives. Provides specialized knowledge regarding patient / family problems and practice issues through the process of consultation of nurses, physicians and other members of the team. Both formal and informal consultation is provided to internal and external healthcare professionals, patients and families. Provides leadership in advancing nursing knowledge and practice through a range of research related activities.
- Involved in professional activities that allow for sharing and dissemination of knowledge in an area of expertise within the organization and externally to the community and the profession.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team approach and to adhere to accepted standards of personal conduct.
- Actively participate on relevant internal and external committees/groups.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
EDUCATION/TRAINING EXPERIENCE:
- Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (RN, EC) with current Certification with the CNO with the ability to practice with adult and pediatric population – required.
- Master’s of Nursing Degree – preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years Emergency experience – required
