The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering a range of key economic, social and demographic topics. These include measuring changes in the value of the UK economy, estimating the size, geographic distribution and characteristics of the population, and providing indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration.
As the International Passenger Survey Site Manager you will be part of a continuous survey that started in 1961 and is based at all major sea, air and international rail terminals within the United Kingdom. Your role and that of your team sits at the heart of public service delivery.
You will work within the Social Survey Collection Division, as part of the Operational Delivery Profession (ODP). The ODP is the largest profession in the Civil Service. Its 200,000+ members work in a wide range of operational delivery roles across government, providing essential services that support and protect UK citizens at home and overseas. You will lead a small team of 4 interviewers based at Harwich port, working remotely and reporting to an IPS Area Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The International Passenger Survey (IPS) is a continuous survey for which data collected at all major sea, air and international rail terminals within the United Kingdom. The ONS is main sponsor of the survey and uses the data to calculate the effect of the tourist industry on the UK balance of payments and calculate consumer expenditure on travel fares. The data is also used to make population projections and forecasts.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS

This role requires seaport ID passes to enable you access to your team’s working areas. All persons applying for a port-side ID pass will be subject to an Enhanced Background Check.

NATIONALITY REQUIREMENTS

This job is broadly open to the following groups:
