ABOUT US

The central mission of Western Law is to educate students in the core areas of Canadian law, in analytical skills and in effective legal research, writing and advocacy. QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree

Experience:

  • 3 years of related experience working with students, partner organizations/institutions and various student programs
  • Previous international work, study, volunteer or cross-cultural experience
  • Ability to speak, read and write in a second language would be an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Law schools, programs, protocols and processes, particularly as they relate to admissions, course credit transfer and student registration in an international context
  • Highly developed cross-cultural knowledge and understanding of intercultural considerations and cultural adjustment process
  • Proven ability to assess issues promptly, intervene and problem solve to support a positive student experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk management, pre-departure and re-entry programming, presentations and training sessions
  • Ability to effectively manage social media platforms, communication and engagement for student populations
  • Demonstrated strong customer service orientation to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Proven strong ability to assess the needs and expectations of a diverse clientele, advise students and make referrals
  • Strong relationship management, influencing and collaboration skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to respond effectively to high stress, crisis or emergency situations dealing with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to manage volunteers and implement training programs
  • Proven ability to evaluate programs and implement necessary changes
  • Intermediate level of experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web design software such as Cascade, Database and CRM experience (PeopleSoft and Atlas preferred)

Responsibilities:

The International Program Coordinator facilitates the efficient administration of student programs within the Faculty of Law. The role acts as a resource and first point of contact for students interested in participating in international opportunities, placements, internships and fellowships, as well as liaising directly with partners. The International Program Coordinator will research and provide information to the Associate Dean, Academic and faculty advisors regarding current and potential exchange and placement partners, and potential domestic and international law internship opportunities. The role provides in depth knowledge and expertise in the areas of student mobility, risk management, program requirements, and intercultural competencies. The International Program Coordinator will liaise and collaborate with partners to ensure smooth delivery of programs and services in support of exchange, internship, student placement, fellowship, and international students within the Faculty of Law.
