Description:
AHDB are currently recruiting for an International Trade Development Director. This role is critical for the organisation, leading an area that is strongly supported by our levy payers and board because of the importance of exports to the success of our livestock sectors. We want to build on our track record of success, increasing investment where appropriate. The successful candidate requires extensive experience of international trade development and market access in the meat, dairy or food sectors, along with excellent leadership and strong people management skills. Flexibility to travel is essential, as this hybrid role requires a mix of international travel, home and office working, depending on business needs.
This key role has responsibility for leading export and market access teams to develop and implement AHDBs international trade development and market access strategy to ensure we optimise opportunities for growth and improved competitiveness. Exports are likely to be even more important for our industry in the future and so the successful candidate will have an influential role in developing our sector strategies.

- Provide senior leadership and direction for the AHDB international trade development and market access, and lead both UK and overseas teams and activity
- Open and develop markets to grow British Meat & Dairy’s share of export opportunities
- Build effective and established relationships with Government and industry to enable access in new markets for AHDB sector products
- Support industry to grow and maximise trade development opportunities through an active and targeted programme at trade shows, inward and outward missions, marketing programmes as appropriate
- Provide access to new product development and identify international best practice that AHDB levy payers can capitalise on to improve transparency waste and energy efficiency in the supply chain, supply chain assurance and quality of products
- Use knowledge and understanding of trade flows and markets including animal disease and Government trade policies to support the UK industry to grow its market opportunities overseas
- Extensive experience of international trade development and market access in the meat, dairy or food sector, and ideally hold a relevant degree, although not essential
- Excellent leadership skills and strong people management and demonstrable finance experience/capability
- Strong collaboration and communication skills and used to negotiating and influencing with a variety of stakeholders
- Ability to generate credibility and respect with teams, stakeholders and boards
- Flexible and willing to travel extensively around the world with teams in Europe and China and other overseas markets
