Description:

The Icelandic Red Cross is excited to welcome two volunteers in partnership with the British Red Cross this September. The Icelandic Red Cross operates a programme called Restoring Family Links that aims to prevent separation and disappearance, search for missing persons, restore and maintain contact between family members and clarify the fate of persons reported missing. The ICRC and National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies work together around the world to locate people and put them back into contact with their relatives. The ICRC’s work to restore family links goes back to 1870, it’s work includes tracing family members, re-establishing and maintaining contact, reuniting families, and seeking to clarify the fate and whereabouts of those who remain missing. The RFL project at the Icelandic Red Cross has grown and expanded greatly over the last years, we are seeing a large increase in the numbers of users of the services we offer, along with an increase in the need for information and assistance. This opportunity is exclusively for young people aged 18-25 from or currently living in Wales. Placement dates: 2nd September 2024 – 3rd August 2025 (11-month placement). This is a great opportunity to get involved in social action projects and find out what you are interested in. For more details on the role and the projects available, have a look at the role description. The main thing we want to see is your motivation for this placement! If you have any questions please contact IYVP@redcross.org.uk
Why we want you: The International Youth Volunteering Programme (IYVP) can offer young people aged 18-25 to take part in a full-time, structured, and supported volunteer international programme. All our placements are fully funded, with travel, accommodation, visas and health insurance costs covered, and volunteers receive a small monthly allowance to cover additional expenses. This is the perfect opportunity for those interested in gaining valuable skills, having new experiences, and giving back to the community. The personal and professional skills developed on these placements (independence, resilience, working with vulnerable people, etc), as well as the opportunity to live in a new country and create connections with people from different walks of life are extremely beneficial for any young person looking to start a career in this sector or similar. We are keen to hear from individuals, especially those who do not normally get the chance to volunteer overseas, who are passionate and motivated for this kind of work, but who also understand that these types of placements require adaptability and resilience.
