Context
We are looking for an intern who would like to join the Private Banking Risk & Control department. This department is the first line of defense for Investment and Business activities related to Private Banking.
Your Position
The Control officer performs the overall first level control & risk management. This role involves close work with all department across Private Banking.

You will:

  • Assist all PB Control officers in their search in the various electronic databases (CRM, ICN, etc.)
  • Perform some straightforward controls - e.g., client classification; phone records; etc.
  • Design control reports summarizing the outcome of the controls performed and propose action plan to improve the situation, when needed.
  • Write/Review the working instructions detailing how to perform the controls.
  • Depending on your ability to handle straightforward controls, you might move to the next step, i.e.
  • Challenge and perform controls over various critical investment or business-related processes including but not limited to trade suitability review, order taking validation, account activity review, etc.
  • Act as an intermediary between the Private Bankers, Portfolio Managers and the second line of defence (i.e., Financial & Operational Risk Management and Compliance) to ensure our way of working is fully in line with the current regulation framework.

In addition, you will be in charge of one of those projects, depending on your competencies on the field and on the department needs at that moment:

  • Identify and challenge all changes that the brand-new platform has brought to the way we used to perform our controls, present them to the Head of PB Risk & Control, to Risk Management and Compliance. Then update our working instructions accordingly.
  • Prepare the Quarterly control report dedicated to the PB Management Committee (ManCo), Head of Audit, Head of Risk and Head of Compliance. Then follow up on the evolution of the control results, identify the big trends, draw conclusions and propose action plans to improve the situation in the future.
  • Prepare the Repapering & Reprofiling monthly statistics dedicated to the PB Management Committee (ManCo), Head of Audit, Head of Risk and Head of Compliance. Then identify actions to be taken by various departments i.e., AOA (Administration of Accounts), Front Care, PB Officers or PB Assistants
  • Prepare the External Auditors first assessment of the Bank’s accounts by making sure that the contribution of the tariffs and fees applied do reconcile with a proportion of the profits recorded by the Bank. To get there ensure that: what is in AVALOQ corresponds to what is stated in the contract signed by the client or in email request sent to Front Care; there is consistency between the documents with the system settings and vice versa data; and that there is consistency between the different tariff types (client group, management fees & safekeeping fees).

Your Profile

  • Student in economics-related topics (i.e., commercial engineer, economics, applied economics, finance, management, accounting, audit, etc.)
  • Fluent at FR and/or NL; good conduct of English is required.
  • Team player showing enthusiasm, critical mind, creativity and attention to detail.
  • Good command of Excel.
