BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION

The current prevalence of malnutrition in children is alarming. Maternal and child undernutrition is the underlying cause of approximately 45% of all mortality in children under 5. Stunting levels remain stubbornly high in many parts of the world, while child overweight is rising at a tremendous pace - even in low-income countries.
As one of the United Nations main agencies fighting malnutrition, the World Food Programme (WFP) is adapting to meet the current and emerging global nutrition challenges. This includes enhancing organizational capacity and innovating to improve programme quality, with a view to sustainably reducing all forms of malnutrition.
Digitization has the potential to improve field operations and increase the impact of WFP and partners’ efforts at improving the nutritional status of the people we serve. Currently, WFP has a number of digital tools in different stages of development: Conditional On-Demand Assistance (CODA) and ENHANCE.
As a key member of the Nutrition Digital Innovation team within the Nutrition and Food Quality Service, reporting directly to the Team Leader, the ODK Specialist Intern will play a pivotal role in scaling up the CODA (Nutrition Digital Innovation Tool for the Prevention and Management of Wasting) by decentralising its adaptation to various country contexts. This position is crucial in empowering country offices to independently adapt and implement CODA, reducing their reliance on the core CODA team.
In this role as an ODK Intern, you will customise standard ODK forms to meet the unique requirements of each country, ensuring they are fit for local contexts. Additionally, you will support the training and capacity building of focal points as needed to ensure the successful adoption of the tool.
Additionally, the Data Scientist and ODK Intern will collaborate closely with the Product Team.

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example, Bachelor’s degree) from a recognized university and have completed at least two years of the programme; OR
  • Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example, Master degree); OR
  • Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme); AND

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Knowledge and experience with ODK, Tableau for data visualization and dashboard management.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with the CODA Data Analyst and Business Analyst to ensure data entered at the device level within the app is accurately captured and reflected in the Tableau dashboard.
Act as the first point of support for dashboard and data-related technical issues. Conduct initial technical investigations for any bugs identified in the Tableau dashboard and coordinate with the CODA Data Analyst and other relevant team members for further assistance if needed. As the ODK Specialist, customise standard ODK forms to meet the specific requirements of different country contexts for CODA adoption, ensuring the forms are user-friendly and effective for data collection in various field conditions. Conduct thorough testing and validation of locally adapted country-specific ODK forms to identify and address any bugs or configuration errors promptly. Oversee the management of ODK forms and workflows for Country Offices, ensuring the quality and accuracy of published forms and workflows. Support training sessions and workshops for Country Offices on the use and adaptation of CODA. Perform other related tasks as required and delegated by the Team Lead.
