QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- University degree in environmental sciences, hydrogeology, hydrology, chemistry, or related field. Master’s degree in the above fields is an asset
- Solid knowledge in the use of analytical equipment in a laboratory environment
- Knowledge of hydrochemistry.
- Solid knowledge of standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team, with respect for and sensitivity to a multi-cultural environment.
- Expertise in isotope and/or chemical measurements in water samples is an asset.
- Experience in the application of isotope techniques for water resources management is an asset.
- Excellent written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.
Responsibilities:
MAIN PURPOSE
The main purpose of the internship is supporting the Isotope Hydrology Laboratory with processing of water samples for tritium analysis.
Under supervision of the Tritium Group leader and Laboratory Head and the direct guidance of Laboratory and Section Staff, the Intern carries out key tasks related to processing of water samples for tritium analysis including:
- Purification of water samples by chemical treatment and distillation.
- Analysis of samples by UV spectroscopy.
- Tritium enrichment by electrolysis.
- Liquid scintillation counting (LSC) analysis.
- Registration of samples and management of workflows
