Description:

Please note this internship opportunity is specifically designed for Uri o Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei/descendants of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.
Ko wai mātou | Who are we
Whai Rawa is the commercial arm of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, responsible for maximising the financial returns of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei’s assets, to support the aspirations of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei whānau (now and in the future). Whai Rawa are a team of approximately 29 professionals that work in property development, residential asset management, finance, legal, communications and events. Whai Rawa also own and manage the Eastcliffe retirement village.

Our current projects that the 2024 interns will have the opportunity to work on are:

  • Hawaiki Housing Development – we will be completing our latest papa kāinga development (24 homes) in December 2024.
  • Unitec Development – our development team is designing over 350 whare to be built in stages over multiple years in Mount Albert. This is a joint venture with another Māori entity so we are also finalising the joint venture documentation with them. There’s an opportunity to be a part of the team working on the development, legal and finance work that we are currently undertaking to bring this development to fruition.
  • Te Tōangaroa activation – Te Tōangaroa is the first urban tangata whenua precinct. There will be lots of events over the summer to assist our team with to bring a vibrancy to Te Tōangaroa. Every day will be different – one day you could be capturing content for our social channels, the next you could be working with designers on promo material and the next day you could be on site with photographers.
  • Residential Housing projects – Whai Rawa have 200 whānau homes which Whai Rawa manage the maintenance and other upgrade works on. Work with our whānau residential team on this important mahi.
  • Eastcliffe Retirement Village – ‘day to day’ operations of the retirement village (if you have an interest in a career related to aged care or health care) or property management. We are currently preparing for a project to remediate weather tightness issues in the Eastcliffe buildings.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity
The Whai Rawa interns will work across all the Whai Rawa teams to have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of work. The role can be tailored for a candidate that has an interest, or is undertaking tertiary study, in one of the areas of expertise of the Whai Rawa team and in that case, you will report to your allocated Manager.
You will be well-supported by the Whai Rawa team and encouraged to give things a go - Tūwhitia te hopo, mairangatia te angitū!
