Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity
We’re looking for someone eager to make a real impact in their community—someone compassionate, with a genuine desire to support whānau, and the confidence to share their ideas and collaborate effectively.
In this iwi- and whānau-centric role, you’ll work alongside a dedicated team focused on “improving outcomes for people, culture, and the environment” through a whānau ora approach.
You’ll support service delivery, gain valuable experience working with a multi-disciplinary team, and collaborate with internal and external partners to empower whānau and drive positive change.

Responsibilities:
- Work alongside a community service team, applying whānau ora principles to support families and communities.
- Shadow kaiarahi (mentors) to develop practical skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with internal and external providers to support projects and learning.
- Assist with case noting, administrative tasks, and project research focused on priority groups.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies and promote Whai Maia’s values and goals.
- Manage work priorities and stress levels with team support, displaying a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and team events.
- Adhere to health and safety standards, ensuring a safe work environment.
- Some experience in community or social work and familiarity with Te Ao Māori is beneficial.
