Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Interpretation Section (IS), Conference Management Service (CMS), Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in Vienna. CMS operates administratively under the Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). The incumbent will report to the Senior Interpreter, Russian (Chief of Booth). Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties: • Provide interpretation into Russian of speeches and statements given in English and French and/or Spanish. • Service up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of the United Nations and other international organizations to which the service is provided. • Routinely cover sensitive and highly technical meetings. • Routinely function as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting. • Routinely go on missions, as required, and assume duties of Chief Interpreter on missions when assigned. • May instruct and advise interpreter trainees and coach junior staff members. • May be called to assume management duties such as Officer-in-Charge of the Russian Booth. • May assist in the preparation of training and/or examination material upon request of the Chief of Section. • May be asked to collect and analyse data related to interpretation, identify trends or patterns and provide insights through using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting, when applicable. • Perform other work-related duties, as required.

Education
A first level degree from a university or from an institution of equivalent status, preferably a recognized school of interpreting. A Master’s degree is desirable. Candidates for this position must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for Russian Interpreters.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations is required. Relevant language experience within the United Nations System is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages in the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, a perfect command of Russian, normally expected to be the incumbent’s main language, is required. Candidates for this position must also possess an excellent active knowledge of English, French and/or Spanish. Proven ability to interpret from or into other UN official languages is an asset.
Assessment
