ABOUT PAQ
PAQ is an Indigenous organization that accompanies First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples facing housing insecurity in Tio’tià: ke / Montréal. Using a culturally adapted approach based on empowerment and harm reduction, we offer shelter, housing options and services that promote well-being and healing, and strengthen community. We work in partnership to advocate for the health and housing rights of urban Indigenous Peoples.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of six months experience in intervention, social work or similar fields.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to reconciliation with Canada’s Indigenous peoples.
- Bilingualism (French and English spoken functionally)
- Minimum of one year in harm reduction services (alcohol or other drugs) (an asset).
- Experience working in the field of addictions and/or mental health is a strong asset.
- Experience living or working with Indigenous communities or peoples is a strong asset.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset.
- Ability to work in a team environment
- First aid certification is an asset.
- Smart Serve certification or equivalent is an asset
Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
We are looking for Intervention workers for our Managed Alcohol Program (MAP). MAP provides long-term supportive housing with an on-site managed alcohol program for 8 to 10 people from the indigenous community that are experiencing homelessness and severe alcohol dependencies in Montreal. This program serves to reduce the acute, chronic and social harms associated with alcohol dependency.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcomes Indigenous women and men participating in the PAQ’s managed alcohol program.
- Provides support and intervention tailored to the needs of participants
- Facilitates and fosters group life and the feeling of community with participants.
- Maintains the stability, security and cleanliness of the premises and ensures compliance with the program’s policies and regulations.
- Offers alcohol to participants according to their clinically supervised and individualized alcohol management plan. This involves conducting intoxication assessment and withdrawal assessments.
- Keeps up to date on directives from the team lead and clinical partners to ensure the health and well-being of participants.
- Ensures the proper functioning of community rooms, household appliances, and conducts regular safety checks of the premises.
- Intervenes in crisis or emergency situations and responds to the needs of residents according to PAQ procedures and services.
- Completes relevant documents, statistics and reports.
- Coordinates household tasks by participants to ensure cleanliness of the premises
- Participates in team meetings and trainings.
- Provides scheduling flexibility and availability to work replacement shifts.
- Performs any other task assigned by the Harm Reduction Coordinator or the Team
