Description:

The Health Disparities and Public Policy program in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is conducting the Northwestern Juvenile Project: a 30-year longitudinal research study of the needs and outcomes of youth in juvenile detention as they age. Participants were originally sampled from a juvenile detention center as adolescents between 1995-1998, and are now median age 43. Three- to four-hour structured interviews are conducted 7 days a week in participants’ homes across the Chicagoland area, in correctional facilities, and via Zoom or phone when participants live too far away to be interviewed in person. Multiple interview waves with varying participant eligibility criteria and unique interview protocols are ongoing.
The Interviewer Supervisor oversees and supports 6-8 field interviewers to ensure the successful execution of the Northwestern Juvenile Project. Key responsibilities include conducting weekly individual supervisions and bi-weekly team meetings with field interviewers, managing unusual situations in the field, sharing on-call duties after hours and weekends, and performing at least one field interview each month. Some interviews include collecting dried blood spots from participants. The Interviewer Supervisor will review travel reimbursements and timesheets, disburse participant payments to interviewers and reconcile accounts monthly, and hire and train interviewers on various techniques and procedures including obtaining informed consent and field safety. The Interviewer Supervisor acts as a liaison between interviewers and the Measurement Team, creates monthly schedules, and coordinates annual reliability studies.
