Inventory Planner, Calgary
MEG Energy is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Inventory Planner to join our Supply Chain Management team at our Calgary, Alberta office. This position will report to the Materials Management Lead and is responsible for planning and expediting all materials, components, and purchased finished goods for each project.
This role ensures an uninterrupted supply to meet internal and external customer requirements, manages the day-to-day supplier issues and relationships from an operational and tactical perspective, and oversees the warehouse storage usage levels between all locations.
Please note, this is a 16-month contract position with compensation as a straight hourly rate

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Review and monitor inventory levels, usage patterns and lead times to forecast future material requirements, including:
  • Developing capacity plans and reviews of utilization rates
  • Implement industry standards and process improvements to enhance materials planning efficiency, reduce lead times, and optimize inventory turnover
  • Ensure continuous supply of materials and meet business unit service requirements through strategic planning by:
  • Developing and documenting the materials management strategy for all major events through collaboration with relevant business units
  • Collaborating with internal departments to determine material needs based on project schedules and production plans
  • Coordinating with Inventory Controller to ensure materials are available to support operations and major projects/events
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Procurement Team to ensure reliable and cost-effective supply of materials through:
  • Identification of potential supply chain disruptions and development of contingency plans to mitigate risks
  • Work with internal teams and suppliers to address and resolve issues affecting supply continuity
  • Tracking and expediting material deliveries to ensure timely delivery of materials and supplies.
  • Coordination with logistics and warehouse teams to ensure efficient receipt, storage, and distribution of materials.
  • Handle billing problems related to internal issues (e.g., accounting strings & work orders).
  • Coordinating with Inventory Analyst to support management of MEG’s offsite storage locations including:
  • 3rd party warehouses, outdoor storage yards, fabrication shops, pipe yards, etc
  • Work with 3rd party Shipping/Receiving/Issuing personnel at each location ·
  • Use various tools and software systems to gather, analyze, and report on key performance indicators.
  • Develop and refine policies, processes, and procedures related to materials planning and demand management

What you will bring to MEG:

  • University degree with a specialty in Supply Chain, Business Administration,
  • Logistics or a related field
  • SCMP (or other) designation and Data Analytics are assets
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Competencies Typically Required for the Position:
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in inventory planning, materials expediting,
  • or a similar role in the oil and gas industry
  • Must have experience using Maximo
  • Strong understanding of supply chain processes, inventory management principles, and procurement best practices.
  • Ability to work on strategic and tactical projects with excellent problem-solving
  • skills
  • Excellent technical skills, especially with spreadsheets and data management
  • Decisiveness, initiative, attention to detail, and high accuracy
  • Analytical ability as well as organizing and planning skills to effectively manage the flow of materials.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
