Powertech has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Inventory Planner within its Asset Management Solutions division. We offer multi-disciplinary engineering support through technology evaluation for suitability, material selection and specification, pre-commissioning support and quality assurance, developing inspection or repair strategies, condition assessment for extending life, or failure analysis at end of life. Within the division, the EV Infrastructure team offers their expertise in designing and executing test programs to thoroughly evaluate functionality and fitness for purpose of new technologies before launching broadscale deployment or customer incentive programs. The department also plays an integral role in helping our parent company, BC Hydro, achieve their deployment targets for public charging.

Duties

  • Determines equipment and material procurement quantities using known project requirements, field estimates, historical and other data for assigned commodities; sets appropriate central warehouse stock levels and determines optimum supply strategy; optimizes the use of materials by ensuring consumption of existing stock and/or determines substitutes by consulting with procurement and standards professionals.
  • Sets up and sustains system forecasts for assigned commodity items; analyzes Re-order Notice (RON) details for items requiring stock replenishment and determines order quantities based on historical and future projections and adjusts Order Parameter Settings (Re-Order point, Safety Stock and Target Max) to optimize inventory levels to meet current demands and service requirements, while balancing financial risk of overstocking and costs to carry, security of supply and risk of stock outs; prepares RONs to replenish stock requested by others and to satisfy changes in demand where planned demand is significantly different from trend; performs stock reviews of selected commodities to ensure quantities scheduled for delivery meet anticipated demands.
  • Determines necessary quantities & timelines required and provides this information to the purchasing department to execute procurement processes. Works with purchasing departments to collect information for contract approvals in regards to quantities required and expected forecast requirements.
  • Reviews slow turning stock and facilitates identification of surplus and obsolete stock with stakeholders across BCH and BCTC to meet Financial Information & Control Requirements (FICR) compliance. Prepares Disposal Authorizations for surplus and obsolete stock items and communicates results to stakeholders to facilitate financial write offs.
  • Works with customers, storekeepers, buyers and asset managers to manage unanticipated material and equipment shortages by identifying and realigning priorities to meet customer need dates. Minimizes construction delays by optimizing, reprioritizing and reallocating existing stock through stores transfers; identifies available alternatives, such as compatible units, during periods of limited supply.
  • Participates as a user representative in the development, testing and implementation of enterprise asset management and work management system upgrades that impact inventory management processes and procedures; monitors administrative process, identifies problem areas and initiates corrective action.
  • Reviews and requests catalogue updates to maintain accurate stock descriptions, specifications, approved products and material classifications for assigned commodity items.
  • Keeps current on inventory and logistics trends, strategies and best practices by participating in external industry-related research or training and development forums.
  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation plus successful completion of Logistics Management modules leading to accreditation from the Logistics Institute (P.Log.) or equivalent courses in business administration or operations management from an accredited post-secondary institute.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with an inventory-based material management system. Requires a good understanding of purchasing processes. Valid driver’s license required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Good knowledge of material used in BC Hydro’s single & three phase overhead distribution systems.
  • Good knowledge of material used to meet BC Hydro’s single & three phase underground standards.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing inventory and logistics management principles, practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of BCH inventory, work management and purchasing systems.
  • Ability to utilize common desktop applications.
  • Excellent analytical skills to manage large sets of data and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Ability to utilize Excel software to an advanced level.
  • Knowledge of the electrical industry.
  • Good understanding of transportation timelines and schedules to facilitate movement of inventory in critical situations.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Ability to build and manage working relationships with internal customers and stakeholders and BCTC.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle.
