We are currently looking for an Investment Banking Analyst - Public Finance in Denver, CO.
Who are we looking for? The qualified candidate should start with an interest in working with your community, not be scared of numbers, and be a strong communicator. This position will provide qualitative and analytical support to senior bankers working on bond transactions and providing financial services to public sector entities. This is an entry level position, but at Piper Sandler, we expect our team members to assume a high level of responsibility and actively participate in all aspects of a transaction. This position also allows for the opportunity for career growth over time into a more senior position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. or B.A. with major(s) in business, economics, mathematics, political science, public administration, urban planning or related fields is preferred
  • Interest in or previous experience with public finance or with public agencies is a strong positive
  • Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, highly self-motivated, and to go the extra mile in terms of effort and hours when needed
  • Comfort with analysis and quantitative operations is a must, but no prior experience is required
  • Knowledge of or desire to learn about financial markets
  • Well organized, attention to detail and able to manage multiple projects under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced user of Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience of 1 to 3 years working in a related field such as banking, accounting or governmental finance a plus, although we will also consider recent graduates
  • Strong communication and professional presence with clients required
    Our public finance group provides underwriting and financial advisory services to state & local governments and not-for-profit entities. Supported by a broad national platform, our expert teams leverage localized knowledge to facilitate the issuance of taxable and tax-exempt debt across a range of sectors including state & local government, charter schools, cultural & social service nonprofits, healthcare, higher education, hospitality, project finance, K-12 school districts, senior living, special district group, and transportation.

The anticipated starting salary range for Colorado based individuals expressing interest in this position is $75,000 - $80,000 per year. Placement within this range is dependent upon level of experience. This position is eligible for annual incentive compensation which will be a part of the total compensation. Total compensation for this position will be competitive with the market.

Responsibilities:

  • Working on financing community projects with clients such as school districts, cities, counties, universities, utility districts, state agencies
  • Researching client debt load, local economy, financial strengths
  • Developing models to structure and optimize debt transactions
  • Preparing analyses on client outstanding debt, future debt capacity and credit profile
  • Assisting with marketing to new clients. Preparing presentations for financing proposals and new business development
  • Preparing disclosure documents for bond sales
  • Preparing presentations to bond rating agencies
  • Assisting with conference and event planning
  • Interacting with clients and other financing team members in coordinating transaction details
  • Drafting responses to request for proposals from municipalities seeking assistance
