JOB SUMMARY
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is highly motivated to work in a dynamic team and to contribute to our Investment Banking business.
The J.P. Morgan Sub-Saharan Africa (“SSA”) Corporate Finance Advisory team is responsible for the execution of public and private M&A as well as capital markets transactions involving corporate and financial sponsor clients based in Sub-Saharan Africa. We maintain leading relationships with some of the most prominent clients across the Sub-Saharan Africa region and aid them in addressing their financial needs and delivering on their corporate strategy. The team is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
As an Analyst/Associate within the Investment Banking Sub-Saharan Africa Coverage team, you will be a pivotal player in the origination and execution of Investment Banking mandates across all major product areas and industries. Your responsibilities include participating in the “full cycle” of transactional execution including preparing marketing pitches, reviewing and formulating financial analysis, preparing and presenting internal committee memoranda and client presentations for use in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and capital markets related transactions across equity and debt, or strategic dialogue.
You will work across Sub-Saharan Africa together with other bankers from the SSA team, as well as colleagues from industry and other product teams in other geographies. You will get exposure to formal training, hands-on learning opportunities, continuous mentoring and feedback, and numerous development opportunities. You are expected to develop strong functional skills in the major areas of investment banking and become a senior client executive who is capable of generating and executing your own transactions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, CAPABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Prior experience in an Investment Bank either in M&A, corporate finance, an industry group or leveraged finance
- Outstanding financial analysis and modelling skills
- High level of attention to detail and time management
- Excellent understanding of financial, legal and reputational risks facing large integrated investment banks today
- Willingness to work hard to achieve results, ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
- Well rounded personality with a sense of team player
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with local regulatory requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, CAPABILITIES AND SKILLS
- History of outstanding academic and professional achievement
- Experience in dealing with clients and other transactional advisers
- In-depth understanding of investment banking products
- IT skills (MS Office, in particular MS Powerpoint and MS Excel)

Responsibilities:
- Prepare presentation materials and participating in deal pitches
- Build complex valuation models and other analytical exercises
- Perform financial valuation, discounted cash flow, leveraged buy-out and multiples-based analyses
- Conduct industry and product research
- Day-to-day management of projects
- Liaise with the relevant counterpart at the client and other advisers (accounting, legal etc.)
- Coordinate project deliverables and timetables with other advisers
- Liaise with other team members, industry coverage bankers and other product partners to deliver the firm to our clients
