The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The OSC is the only securities regulator in Canada to create a dedicated Investor Office with an aim to achieve better investor outcomes. The Investor Office sets the strategic direction and leads the OSC’s efforts in investor engagement, education, outreach and research.
Reporting to the Manager, Investor Engagement and Outreach, the Investor Engagement Specialist is dedicated to advancing our education, and outreach work to support investors. The successful candidate is enthusiastic and engaged in personal finance, financial literacy and investing. This role requires a team player who can contribute to the development of effective public-facing initiatives from web updates to social media to in-person outreach events.

What you will be doing:

  • Contribute to the development of innovative and effective investor education, outreach and engagement content and delivery methods. This will include participation in all OSC investor education channels including:
  • GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca, one of Canada’s most popular financial education websites.
  • Educational microsites such as InvestingFundamentals.ca and InvestingIntroduction.ca.
  • Question & answer website InvestingQuestions.ca.
  • Investor News newsletter.
  • Investor social media including Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube.
  • Investor advertising and social media promoted posts
  • Presentations and speeches for stakeholder and community audiences.
  • Work closely with staff in the Investor Office to help execute new, creative and meaningful ways of engaging with investors.
  • Develop an approach for regularized review of online content to ensure accurate, accessible, refreshed content.
  • Support projects including procurement, vendor relations, and dissemination of results to ensure maximum impact and reach.
  • Engage with stakeholders including investors and consumers, financial education providers, community groups, financial services representatives, regulators and others.
  • Support the expansion of outreach and education efforts to new groups and organizations.
  • Regularly identify new opportunities for social media engagement, proactively finding opportunities for investor education messages in conversations.
  • Support the GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca project procurement process administration.

What you bring

  • Expertise gained from 5-7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary education (diploma, certificate, degree) in media, administration, communications, business or other relevant discipline.
  • An understanding of records management, and how information is organized for easy identification and retrieval.
  • Detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing projects and budgets.
  • Ability to multitask while working with external vendors on web and outreach projects.
  • Intrinsically motivated and able to work proficiently both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills to meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of financial concepts and the securities industry.
  • Knowledge of user experience (UX), SEO and accessibility best practices.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Photoshop, WordPress and basic HTML.
  • French or other language skills are an asset.
