ABOUT US

Barrack Lane is a busy practice in the town centre of Ipswich, Suffolk. We have a practice population of over 20,000 patients. The practice is based on two sites, the main surgery in the centre of the town, and a branch surgery at Stoke Park.
Our clinical team is made up of GP partners, salaried GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, advanced care practitioners, dietician, paramedics, physicians associate, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and a practice nursing team and HCAs. This team is supported by a strong administrative, coding and care-navigating team.
Barrack Lane is part of a PCN (Primary Care Network) with Ivry Street Medical Centre, in Ipswich, and the two practices cover a population of 32,000 patients. The PCN allows the practices to share resources and offer an enhanced service to our patients. The PCN employs care co-ordinators and social prescribers to work with patients, especially our vulnerable patients, to help them to access the best care.

Responsibilities:

Barrack Lane Medical Centre has the opportunity for an IT assistant/administrator to join our friendly, supportive and professional team. The role will involve working at both Barrack Lane and our branch surgery at Stoke Park. This is a very busy, interesting and rewarding job working full-time Monday – Friday.
As an IT assistant/administrator you will be responsible helping our IT Lead provide IT support to the practice. This is an extremely important role within the surgery as every member of staff relies on IT to be able to do their job!

The role includes:

  • Assisting in ensuring all IT, telephony and CCTV monitoring equipment across both sites works efficiently and effectively, providing support to resolve any issues as they arise in order to minimise disruption to the Practice staff.
  • Setting up new user accounts and issue login details in a timely manner via the IT Service Desk Portal and Pathology IT Portal. Grant smartcard access via the Care Identity Service (CIS), issuing smartcards to new users and the removal of staff as and when appropriate. Resetting passwords, including email accounts, as and when user’s accounts become locked out.
  • Loading software and ensuring additional clinical software is working effectively.
  • Recording Special Patient Notes on the Adastra OOH system.
  • Ensuring Information Governance, General Data Protection Regulations, Confidentiality guidelines and IT Security and IG compliance is adhered to at all times.
  • Providing reports and audits as required for patient care and practice development.
  • General Troubleshooting.
  • Maintaining the Practice Website.

In addition you will be part of the Administration Team which will include:

  • Managing the practice administration email. Ensuring that urgent emails are prioritised and actioned appropriately.
  • Managing the registration of new patients.
  • Actioning requests from third parties for patient information.
  • Summarising all new patient records and ensuring the information is entered correctly onto the patient’s record on SystmOne.
  • Processing all incoming/outgoing medical records.
