Are you ready to lead and innovate in the world of IT infrastructure? Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a dynamic IT Infrastructure Manager to oversee the delivery, maintenance, and development of our central IT infrastructure.
The IT Infrastructure Manager is a key role within Information Services, having responsibility for the delivery, maintenance and development of the College’s central IT infrastructure, including servers, desktops, network applications such as identity management, email, data storage and backup, network and telecommunication services and general infrastructure security used by all staff and students of the University.
As a key player you will lead and manage the work of a number of technical engineers in the Infrastructure Team, as well as coordinating activities with IT Managers in the Faculty of Science (who run High Performance Computer services). You will be instrumental in improving and developing the future of our IT services, and responsible for implementing ITIL-based processes.
The role combines a hands-on approach, with a strategic and operational overview across the diverse range of systems and services provided by IS Operations.
The Infrastructure Manager needs to engage with stakeholders in all parts of the University to ensure the delivery of appropriate systems and services. A particular focus is seeking and acting on opportunities to take advantage of cloud technologies to deliver increased levels of security, efficiency and resilience.

  • Experience in managing large-scale IT systems and projects.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and develop a diverse technical team.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and enterprise technologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
