Description:
This is an IT Network Provisioning Engineer position within the Emerson IT Infrastructure & Operations organization. The incumbent has ownership of the technical provisioning of LAN and WLAN services as defined by Emerson IT. The area to be covered is a defined territory and may expand to other areas on an assignment basis. The incumbent must provide the agreed service levels to internal customers using ITIL inspired tools and technology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:
- Project Management experience is regarded an advantage.
- ITIL v3/4 Foundation Level preferred.
Responsibilities:
IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:
General
- The incumbent is responsible for setting up all LAN and WLAN services according to our standards and processes, using their expertise. The role may expand to other world areas on an assignment basis.
- Follow and enforce Emerson policies and rules regarding relevant IT management, security, standards, and procedures, liaise with other teams when required.
- Be prepared to take on other duties within own area of expertise, as assigned.
Technical Provisioning Role Level 1 Entry / Regular
- Implement Managed LAN Service at Emerson locations, according to LAN Service definitions and standards, following SD&O Provisioning processes.
- Complete detailed site discovery of the current situation, identify the gap to meet Managed LAN Service Standards
- Provide the new proposed LAN design, meeting Managed LAN service requirements and standards, also considering business impact, risk, and budget
- Configure and implement according to agreed LAN design, standardize according to service requirements, provide Day1 support, and solve possible issues during the project phase.
- Document as-built situation, hand-over to Operations team (Transition process)
- Implement Managed WLAN Service at Emerson locations, according to WLAN Service definitions and standards
- Configure and implement Cisco WLAN devices according to the agreed design, standardize according to service requirements, provide Day1 support, and solve possible issues during the project phase.
- Document the as-built situation, hand-over to the Operations team
- Explain Managed LAN and WLAN Service and implementation processes to customers.
- Report to the Service Owner and relevant parties any need for deviation for review and validation. Raise non-standard situations, be the driver to achieve an accepted solution.
- Involve and collaborate with other teams as the situation demands (e.g. LAN Segmentation, Security, WAN, Wireless, Server, Telephony. etc)
- Closely collaborate with the assigned Provisioning Manager/Coordinator, support the coordinator in task and workload planning activities
- Work within dates and timelines agreed, manage agreed completion dates, raise any deviation in the execution of own tasks.
- Organize and attend project meetings as required to progress and overcome roadblocks. Be indispensable to any Go-No/Go decision, ensuring Business continuity.
- Make sure that configuration changes are performed in full respect of the organizational change process and procedures.
- Be available as a consultant/support to Network Operation teams for LAN and WLAN service-related topics.
- Collaborate with subcontractors in promoting the best practices/standards to guarantee smooth implementation and efficient transition to the Network Operation team after switch-over.
- Collaborate with Managed LAN/WLAN Service Engineering Lead and any relevant IT organizations to improve the global Service. Be the trusted bridge between the I&O organization and the Managed LAN/WLAN Service Management team.
- Be the main player in the CSI process and notify about any necessary enhancements to optimize Service Provisioning and its support (design, implementation, testing, tools, documentation). Participate in the necessary documentation and procedures definition and maintenance.
Role Level 2 Experienced – in addition to Level 1
- Validate Site LAN design documentation and implementations performed by peers for small/moderate projects of moderate complexity. Other validations on an assignment basis (Validation and technical sign-off tasks).
- Resource capacity flexibility permitting, an experienced job holder may be assigned primarily (but non-exclusive) to larger/more complex projects.
FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
- Education to degree level or equivalent, but experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Professional certifications as appropriate: CCNA, CCNP Routing&Switching/Enterprise, or equivalent experience (CCIE Routing & Switching/Enterprise Infrastructure is a plus)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in LAN and WLAN related technical rollout projects in an international, preferably large enterprise environment.
- 3 or more years working with Cisco LAN and WLAN Devices
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco DNAC, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, LAN and wireless devices such as switches, controllers, Access Points.
- Experience in administering and configuring layer 2 and layer 3 Cisco networks.
- Experience of using Cisco AAA TACACS solutions (e.g. ACS and/or ISE)
- Functional understanding of DNS, DHCP and related network services.Language knowledge: advanced level in business English (speaking / writing); any other languages are considered an advantage.
- Specialist and in their area of expertise, knowledge of current trends in the LAN/WLAN field, plus good understanding of peripheral environments (e.g. Telephony, WAN, Server)
- Role Level1 Entry/Regular: Ability to apply basic predefined template or template that must be hand modified, ability to do one for one hardware replacements maintaining configuration. Ability to do basic port and device troubleshooting. Ability to modify VLAN via command line, setup trunk ports, access ports.
- Level2 Regular/Experienced role requires the ability to migrate configurations between different equipment in simple environments, standardize non-standard hardware, upgrade LANs, and meet current service level. Ability to do advanced core configurations with multigig ports. Ability to configure deployment of chassis model switches.
