A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN IT SPECIALIST AT RWC!

Be part of designing your community! From the bustling downtown core all the way to Northern British Columbia you will be involved with championing safety at all our construction sites. Our previous and current locations include Amazon HQ, YVR Airport, University of British Columbia, Parq Casino, New St. Paul’s Hospital and much more! We are looking for an IT Specialist with a “roll up the sleeves” attitude who will champion the IT Infrastructure of the Company through a business acumen lens.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an IT capacity or similar role
  • Relevant IT designation(s) considered an asset
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of IT principles, practices, and regulations
  • High level of business acumen
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, handle sensitive information with discretion, work autonomously and be a self-starter.

Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the strategic planning and implementation of IT projects ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify technology needs and develop solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation within the organization with a focus on AI.
  • Oversee continuous improvement of ERP and other software.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for hardware, software, and services. Suggest alternative vendors where possible.
  • Ensure all software is up-to-date and compliant with licensing agreements. Plan and execute patch management strategies to keep systems secure.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of IT assets, including software licenses, hardware, and network devices for asset management.
  • Assist with managing the lifecycle of hardware (desktops, servers, network devices), ensuring timely upgrades, maintenance and replacements.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of IT infrastructure, system configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate around improvement of onboarding and offboarding policies and processes and return of IT equipment and assets
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to create and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring that critical business operations can recover quickly from disruptions.
  • Monitor and test regular database backups, performing health checks to ensure the integrity and availability of databases.
  • Create and maintain a knowledge base for common IT issues to streamline troubleshooting and enhance user self-service capabilities.
  • Provide escalated technical support for issues related to hardware and computer systems for all local/remote users.
  • Set up/configure new workstations to specifications outlined by management.
  • Manage domains, subdomains, SSL certificates and maintain HTTPS configurations addressing DNS/HTTPS issues.
  • Run weekly password scans and ensure enforcement of the company’s password policies.
  • Assist in the deployment and follow-up learning of cybersecurity education programs, including phishing campaigns.
  • Lead cyber security initiatives to safeguard data, including penetration testing, staff training and testing, MFA, insurance coverage, reviewing vulnerabilities, and working with managed service provider on any breaches.
  • Participate in ad-hoc operational and IT related duties as required.
