JOB DESCRIPTION

The IT Technologist with Cando Rail & Terminals provides daily support to the various business units throughout the company and ensures Cando’s operations are in conformance with established guidelines, methods, procedures, and policies related to the area of information technology. Working in a fast-paced environment, the IT Technologist must have strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks at one time.

  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating systems (both server and client), all Microsoft Office products/Microsoft Messaging, on-premise/cloud-based products, and terminal server environments; good understanding of network/project management
  • Able to conduct training and information sessions to users with a range of technical abilities
  • Able to work as part of an on-call rotation and occasional after-hours work; some travel is required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum five (5) years experience in a similar IT environment; supervisory or IT management experience an asset for future advancement
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in computer systems technology or related discipline an asset
  • Experience managing multiple systems while maintaining a commitment to business ethics and operational policies and procedures required
  • Proven track record with various Microsoft applications required

Responsibilities:

  • Accept technical support calls to the IT department; diagnose and solve user problems!
  • 50% of the position is help desk focused and the remainder will be other duties as required.
  • Work with the technology team in a server/client environment to ensure that Cando’s systems are understood and functioning properly throughout the organization.
  • Work alongside IT Manager and Technicians to prioritize and schedule work assignments
  • Use extensive knowledge of computer operations to diagnose and repair mainframe computer system malfunctions
  • Assist IT Manager with planning and implementation of future software and equipment required to best meet organizational needs
  • Provide professional and courteous customer/support service to all Cando employees and clients to ensure systems are fully functional throughout the operations; troubleshoot and resolve end-user hardware, operating system, and software related issues
  • Ensure computer systems and company data safety through security applications
  • Research/stay current with changing technology, trends, or industry developments that may impact Cando operations; offer suggestions/solutions for streamlining technological processes
