POSITION SUMMARY

Cambrian College’s IT Client Services Department requires a full-time IT Technologist beginning November 2024,
Note: Internal candidates, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three-year postsecondary diploma/degree, preferably in Computer Technology/Computer Science. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application * education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
  • Must have A+ or Cisco IT Essentials Certification, ITIL (copy of certification must be submitted with application).
  • Five years of experience in the operation, use, installation and maintenance of microcomputer hardware and related equipment; experience with servers and workstations in a large enterprise server/workstation environment; experience in the use, installation.
  • Must also have experience in the operation and maintenance of the Windows operating system and other Windows software in use; experience in centralized administration of laptops and workstations, including systems to distribute software patches, security updates, virus protection, scripted software fixes, and other centralized software updates; and experience in enterprise imaging and other software distribution methodologies.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, along with solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess highly creative problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a self-directed and energetic professional with the ability to work independently as well as within a team- oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective technology support for Cambrian’s desktop/laptop environments, exercising sound knowledge of specialized hardware and software used in these environments.
  • Provide a high level of technical advice, guidance and support for the environment, performing installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of the equipment and software.
  • Ensure solid direct support for clients; subject to the oversight of the manager and the senior technologist.
  • Coordinate technicians, part-time staff and students supporting the environment, and coordinates special project activities.
  • Respond to requests from faculty or students to demonstrate equipment or software.
  • Assist faculty and students in troubleshooting individual problems, and answers questions related to technology.
  • Train staff and students in the proper use of the environment that is special to his/her area of expertise. This includes one-on-one as well as group training sessions.
  • Troubleshoot software and equipment problems, and is the contact person for service providers doing warranty work. Investigate and diagnose computer workstation, laptop, server, network, printer and software malfunctions and performs required corrective action.
  • Detect and solve routine and non-routine complex problems in which hardware, software, and networking interrelate.
  • Under the direction of the Manager IT Client Services and/or the System Administrators, implement, monitor and maintain College applications, as well as centralized server/client systems that are used to ensure the health and integrity of all client workstations.
  • Keep appropriate service records and logs, and maintain all appropriate documentation for the environment.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License is required as travel to satellite campuses may be required.
