POSITION SUMMARY:

A Radiology IV Nurse works as part of the Advanced Radiology team to facilitate IV access, monitor patients during radiology procedures and provide proper patient care and post care.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of IV standards and procedures
  • Skill in IV insertions
  • Ability to establish and maintain mutually supportive, productive working relationships with colleagues, staff, and physicians.
  • Proven record of taking direction professionally from other medical personnel.
  • Working knowledge of computers, software applications, technology, and peripheral office equipment

  • Demonstrated ability to learn on the job.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Hold a valid and unrestricted RN license
  • Active Connecticut State License required
  • 0-2 years clinical experience as a nurse with advanced training in IV placement
  • Certified registered nurse infusion (CRNI) certificate is preferred

Responsibilities:

Essential skills needed include a strong assessment ability and monitoring skills, excellent interpersonal communication and the ability to follow strict protocols. The primary job responsibilities of a Radiology IV Nurse include assessing patients for IV contrast administration, inserting intravenous catheters/heplocks, accessing compatible power ports and power piccs, monitoring contrast reactions and extravasations, training of Technologists on IV placement, technique and infection control stand

Specific duties and responsibilities for a Radiology IV Nurse job description include:

  • Assists in the managing of the procedures through the coordination of resources, to facilitate optimal efficiency.
  • Contributes to a positive climate and open communication for a team approach.
  • Demonstrates interest in meeting patient needs and assuring patient satisfaction.
  • Assures that the procedures performed are in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Reviews all necessary documentation to properly screen and assess the patient prior to the exam.
  • Explains procedures to patients and families
  • Collaborates with other care team members
  • Maintains detailed records of all patient care
  • Performs related clinical and clerical duties associated with the patient
  • Provides oral contrast to patients
  • Reviews lab results and possible collection of samples
  • Follows all guidance for infection prevention set by the Infusion Nurses Society
  • Performs venipuncture for IV catheter placement by following guidance from the Infusion Nurses Society
  • Demonstrates proficiency in accessing power ports and power piccs
  • Monitors patients throughout radiology exam to identify contrast reactions
  • Responds to side effects or reactions to treatments
  • Administers medications and other fluids through IV lines
  • Trains all Technologists that perform venipuncture on proper infection control and technique
  • Assures patients experiencing a reaction or extravasation have proper follow-up care
  • Assists in the procurement of all necessary supplies.
  • Informs supervisor of any equipment needing repair to ensure prompt service
  • Maintains certification and licensure by attending continuing education classes
